Printmaking: Engraving Print Bunny

Engraving is an intaglio printmaking process in which lines are cut into a metal plate in order to hold the ink. In engraving, the plate can be made of copper or zinc. The metal plate is first polished to remove all scratches and imperfections from the surface so that only the intentional lines will be printed.

I wanted to excentuate the fine lines I was creating, and I felt this would best be shown by an animal with a lot of fur. This bunny image that I selected seemed to be a perfect subject for my image. After the engraving was made, the plate was fully inked and run through a press to produce the below image.
