Glitch Art Style Album Cover

For this project, we were introduced to a new method of design, using a technique called image glitching, or glitch art. Glitch art is an exciting and dynamic form of digital art that involves intentionally distorting images, videos, or audio files to create unexpected visual effects. It’s an art form that encourages experimentation and embraces imperfection.

Our task involved delving into the code of a digital image and deliberately manipulating it to generate a "glitched" image. Specifically, we were assigned to utilize this technique for designing album artwork. The chosen artist was not intended to be mainstream or popular; instead, we were encouraged to select artists or bands considered part of the music "underground" scene or emerging talents.

The band I selected is well-known in my hometown of Missouri, named Discrepancies. Hailing from Imperial, MO, Discrepancies is a local band that fuses rap with impressive harmonies, drawing comparisons to Linkin Park, POD, Limp Bizkit, and Tech N9ne. During the time of this project, they had recently released a track titled "Get Hype." Featuring lyrics such as “Get hype, Get loud, Hands in the air, Let them know it's going down,” the energetic and pumped-up vibe of this song can only be described as a blend of rap and rock, filled with hype.

Listening to this song made me feel like my headphones could catch fire from its intense rock vibes. Inspired by the concept of smoke and the lyrics of their popular track "Get Hype," I designed the album artwork below. The artwork features smoke swirling from the front cover to the record's opening, aiming to build excitement for what awaits inside.
