The Burton Family Photo Album
Another project done in my 2016 Digital Illustration class was to create a zine. A zine (short for magazine or fanzine) is a self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced with a copy machine. Our objective was to create this zine out of anything we desired, just as long as it was hand made.
I decided to do what I loved best and make an illustrative zine. Each image you see was hand drawn in a small sketchbook, using a combination of pencils & black ink pens. I wanted to try my hand at drawing people, since this was typically my most difficult subject to draw. At the time, I was really big into Tim Burton movies (and still am) and decided to make my drawings of characters from some of Burton’s most popular works. Once I was done drawing, they were then scanned in on a copier and put together into a hand made "photo album”, which I then labeled The Burton Family Photo Album. The images were bound together with a black card stock cover and black ribbon. I then hand drew The Burtons in ink pen and trimmed them out with scissors to make it more of a “die cut” type feel, adding another level of handcrafted personalization, which was then glued to the front cover of each zine.
