2018 Juried Student Art Show: Campaign Proposal

This campaign was to advertise for the following year’s Juried Student Art Show, which is held at Lindenwood University every year. This was done by using a poster set, along with corresponding Snapchat filters and social media outlets, such as Facebook and Instagram.

If I’m being transparent, this project was extremely frustrating to me (and to others in my class) as grades were assigned based on how many “votes” you got. The entirety of our graduating class (approximately 50-75 people) would have a day designated to viewing our campaign materials, and vote in correspondence with which campaign they liked the most. Essentially that our grade was dependent on our colleages opinions, not the professor(s).

At this time, I was really big into the show Rick & Morty, and there are two memorable lines that I decided to use as the main subject for the campaign:

  1. “Get your shit together. Get it all together and put it in a backpack. All your shit. So it's together. And if you gotta take it somewhere, take it somewhere ya know? Take it to the shit store and sell it. Or put it in a shit museum I don't care what you do. You just gotta get it together... Get your shit together.” - Season 2, Episode 7 - Big Trouble in Little Sanchez

  2. "Nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, we’re all going to die. Come watch TV." - Season 1, Episode 8 - Rixty Minutes

I also pulled a quote from American astrophysicist and writer Neil deGrasse Tyson: “The universe is under no obligation to make sense to you."

And so I showcased my frustration through the project, by a sign of rebellion of “not giving a shit” - but contradicting myself by saying “hey, you should give a shit, and come to the Juried Student Art Show next year.”

I got an 85% on this project, which meant my project received third or fourth overall. Successful? I’ll let you decide.
